Jenifer’s Fear

Jenifer' small body woke, feeling as if she were still in a dream.  She felt fingers move across her slit between her legs.  Her body froze in shock, in a state of shell-shock.  She feared to open her eyes, but so she did after the touch of fingers left her pink, sweet labia.  She got up off of her grandma’s sofa pull out bed, dazed and panicked.  She didn’t look back… she moved herself away from that spoiled bed in a fright.  She crept to the bathroom, only a few feet away, leaving the light off inside the bathroom in fear of him seeing her.  She vomited in the toilet, and sat on the toilet impulsively, but did not pee.  She tells herself she must be quiet now… Sit. Think. Don’t Move.  What happened? she asks herself, frightened and in complete despair.  Then, she realized for the first time that she was in a state of terror, something she’s only ever experienced while watching VHS movies while hidden in the dark with her cousins, in a fantasy.  Except this fantasy was real… Real?  Was it really real?  The phantasy mocked her for all her life thereafter.  She no longer felt safe.  And she never will again.
The pain set in like a nine-inch nail corked into her vagina.  She felt raw and slashed forever, never quite in a position to speak what happened to her as a child, never able to release her anger and hurt because she Knew it would cause more havoc to tell any of her family around her.  So she never did, and she never will.

-------

If we do not start talking about how our bodies have been used without our consent, without a warrant, we will never begin to reach freedom.  For our freedom depends deeply on killing the war machine like cock.  We must speak up about our experiences in order to kill that old-aged fantasy of pure romance and cock.

We Must Challenge conventional ideas about how women are perceived; point in case below:

Women are thought to seduce men through fear; we must point out that we are not totalized by our sexuality.

Monster

Listen. I’m really slowly dying
inside myself tonight.
And I’m not about to run down the list
of rapes and burnings and beatings and smiles
and sulks and rages and all the other crap
you’ve laid on women throughout your history
(we had no part in it -- although god knows we tried)
together with your thick, demanding bodies laid on ours,
while your proud sweat, like liquid arrogance,
suffocated our very pores.
Not tonight.

I’m tired of listing your triumph, our oppression,
especially tonight, while two men whom I like --
one of whom I live with, father of my child, and
claim to be in life-giving, death-serious struggle with --
while you two sit at the kitchen table dancing
an ornate ritual of what you think passes for struggle
which fools nobody. Your shared oppression, grief,
and love as effeminists in a burning patriarchal world
still cannot cut through power plays of maleness.

The baby is asleep a room away. White. Male. American.
Potentially the most powerful, deadly creature
of the species.
His hair, oh pain, curls into fragrant tendrils damp
with the sweat of his summery sleep. Not yet, and on my life
if I can help it never will be "quite a man."
But just two days ago on seeing me naked for what must be
the three-thousandth time in his not-yet two years,
he suddenly thought of
the furry creature who yawns through his favorite television program;
connected that image with my genitals; laughed,
and said, "Monster."

I want a woman’s revolution like a lover.
I lust for it, I want so much this freedom,
this end to struggle and fear and lies
we all exhale, that I could die just
with the passionate uttering of that desire.
Just once in this my only lifetime to dance
all alone and bare on a high cliff under cypress trees
with no fear of where I place my feet.
To even glimpse what I might have been and never never
will become, had I not had to "waste my life" fighting
for what my lack of freedom keeps me from glimpsing.
Those who abhor violence refuse to admit they are already
experiencing it, committing it.
Those who lie in the arms of the "individual solution,"
the "private odyssey," the "personal growth,"
are the most conformist of all,
because to admit suffering is to begin
the creation of freedom.
Those who fear dying refuse to admit that they are already dead.
Well, I am dying, suffocating from this hopelessness tonight,
from this dead weight of struggling with
even those few men I love and care about
each day they kill me.

Do you understand? Dying. Going crazy.
Really. No poetic metaphor.
Hallucinating thin rainbow-colored nets
like cobwebs all over my skin
and dreaming more and more when I can sleep
of being killed or killing.
Sweet revolution, how I wish the female tears
rolling silently down my face this second were each a bullet,
each word I write, each character on my typewriter bullets
to kill whatever it is in men that builds this empire,
colonized my very body,
then named the colony Monster.

I am one of the "man-haters," some have said.
I don’t have the time or patience here to say again why or how
I hate not men but what it is men do in this culture, or
how the system of sexism, power dominance, and competition
is the enemy, not people -- but how men, still, created that system
and preserve it and reap concrete benefits from it.
Words and rhetoric that merely
gush from my arteries when grazed
by the razoredge of humanistic love. Enough.
I will say, however, that you, men, will have to be freed,
as well, though we women may have to kick and kill you
into freedom
since most of you will embrace death quite gladly
rather than give up your power to hold power.

Compassion for the suicidal impulse in our killers? Well,
on a plane ride once, the man across the aisle --
who was a World War Two paraplegic,
dead totally from the waist down,
wheeled in and out of the cabin -- spent the whole trip avidly
devouring first newspaper sports pages
and then sports magazines,
loudly pointing out to anyone who would listen
(mostly the stewardesses) which athlete was a "real man."

Two men in the seats directly behind me talked the whole time
about which Caribbean islands were the best for whoring, and
which color of ass was hotter and more pliant.
The stewardess smiled and served them coffee.
I gripped the arms of my seat more than once
to stop my getting up and screaming to the entire planeload
of human beings what was torturing us all -- stopped because I knew
they’d take me for a crazy, an incipient
hijacker perhaps, and wrestle me down until Bellevue Hospital
could receive me at our landing in New York.
(No hijacker, I understood then, ever really wants to take
the plane. She/he wants to take passengers’ minds, to turn
them inside out, to create the revolution
35,000 feet above sea level
and land with a magical flying cadre
and, oh, yes, to win.)
Stopping myself is becoming a tactical luxury,
going fast.

My hives rise more frequently, stigmata of my passion.
Someday you’ll take away my baby, one way or the other.
And the man I’ve loved, one way or the other.
Why should that nauseate me with terror?
You’ve already taken me away from myself
with my only road back to go forward
into more madness, monsters, cobwebs, nausea,
in order to free you -- men -- from killing us, killing us.

No colonized people so isolated one from the other
for so long as women.
None cramped with compassion for the oppressor
who breathes on the next pillow each night.
No people so old who, having, we now discover, invented
agriculture, weaving, pottery, language, cooking
with fire, and healing medicine, must now invent a revolution
so total as to destroy maleness, femaleness, death.

Oh mother, I am tired and sick.
One sister, new to this pain called feminist consciousness
for want of a scream to name it, asked me last week
"But how do you stop from going crazy?"
No way, my sister.
No way.
This is a pore war, I thought once, on acid.

And you, men. Lovers, brothers, fathers, sons.
I have loved you and love you still, if for no other reason
than that you came wailing from the monster
while the monster hunched in pain to give you the power
to break her spell.
Well, we must break it ourselves, at last.
And I will speak less and less and less to you
and more and more in crazy gibberish you cannot understand:
witches’ incantations, poetry, old women’s mutterings,
schizophrenic code, accents, keening, firebombs,
poison, knives, bullets, and whatever else will invent
this freedom.

May my hives bloom bravely until my flesh is aflame
and burns through the cobwebs.
May we go mad together, my sisters.
May our labor agony in bringing forth this revolution
be the death of all pain.

May we comprehend that we cannot be stopped.

May I learn how to survive until my part is finished.
May I realize that I
                                    am a
                                    monster. I am

                   a
                  monster.

I am a monster.

And I am proud.

A Love So Deadly

Karen Elson - The Ghost Who Walks

The ghost who walks
she's on the prowl
for the man she loved,
he cut her down
it was an ordinary night in June
when he drove her to the lake
so they could watch the full moon

The ghost who walks
she's on the prowl
for the man she loved,
he laid her down
in the tall grass
he kissed her cheek
but with a knife in his hand
he plunged it in deep

She looked at him with pleading eyes
he softly spoke,
"my dear the love has died"
and then he muffled her desperate cries
under the moonlight

Ghost who walks
she's on the prowl
wanders in the moonlight
she's crying to herself because
eyes never once looked cruel
but the moon in the blade
shimmered like a jewel
she looked at him with pleading eyes
he softly spoke,
"my dear the love has died"
and then he muffled her deadly cries
under the moonlight

Under the moonlight
under the moonlight

under the moonlight

Is this what love is?  Do I dare question it?

Is there no pure love?  Can love between men and women ever truly be done with purity of heart?

Our world is held under a system of domination..  Hierarchy in all spheres of life...  How does one deal?  How does one love?

Patriarchy is embedded within every interaction (unless one truly fights the dominant systems of thought, and truly fighting is nearly deadly).

Our thoughts are clogged to the core, devilish even.

May we fight this?  It is possible?

I believe it is... but we must learn from our mistakes and become conscious of the processes that proliferate throughout our society and within our very minds and souls.

We are tainted.

If you cannot admit you are tainted by thoughts of domination, of subordination, I would think again.

There's no escaping this.

This is why we must fight.

This is why we must change.

This is why I write, pour out my heart to the world, hoping to not care of the judgement I will surely receive, even if only in whispers and creeping silence.

I must be honest with myself before I can be honest with this writing.

I am the devil, the wicked, just as much as anyone else in the world.

But this does not mean I'm THE devil, the ultimate evil.

I am simply human in a wicked world of hate, as are you.

Dinah Craik

But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort - the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person - having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away. ~Dinah Craik

Controlling and Un-Controlling the Birds*

Letting a caged bird go is GOOD, but at the same time BAD.  It has consequences.
If the birdy flies away and never comes back, something went wrong… somehow… =(

If it comes back, it LOVES you, and wants to stay with you because you treated it well in the past and nothing too horrible happened to it in that environment you have so little control over.
So, how ‘bout those categories, man and woman?  (Or black and white, or worker and boss, or student and teacher, etc)?

Can men just let go of “their” women, and start letting them live the life they desire with them?  I know it’s very, very hard [I’m not as clear on this issue. I haven’t been raised as “Man”, whatever that is.  You get my drift? I hope so. = )]. But we know that women get hurt, raped, abused when going to bars with her girlfriends and getting looks and men intruding on her unwillingly.  It’s like rape of the eyes. Men look at women and women want to hide because they are so scared of the pain! They’ll hurt without you, but they’ll also hurt with you if you keep her waiting and worrying.  ANYWAYS, don’t fret over my words; we know she’ll come back to you if you truly know in your heart that you love her. ; ) The only true way to know she loves you is if you show it and you *know* she senses it and responds in laughter and smiles.

And, women, can we let our men go?  It feels like we shouldn’t, doesn’t it? They go to war, and they fight in bars and come back broken? They accidentally cripple others with their rage?  = ( Makes me want to cry.  But if you don’t let them go, they’ll just never come back.  We give them our whole selves and then they throw us back like garbage.  We clean up after them, we clean their kitchens and cook, we laugh at their jokes, we try to live beneath their shade as the sun penetrates just so we can BE. I know we wish they could see how much we love them and how much they hurt us, but maybe letting go isn't so bad after all? I know it hurts, but I’m done with the pain, and the sooner we’re done with the pain, the sooner we can see the LIGHT of DAY.

For all those guys (and ladies), here is someone who can help:

Hard-Fi - 'Fire In The House' [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

For all those gals (and gents), here is someone who can explain it in a different way:

Universal Solider by First Aid Kit [Official Video]

Also, for good measure, when we talk to others, let's take into consideration the Ancient Egyptian, Ptahhotep:
"Do not gossip in your neighbourhood, because people respect the silent."

*Sheesh the word “uncontrolling” doesn’t even exist in Word 2010! I had to put “un-controlling”.  What’s up with that?  I guess we just don’t understand the concept of “uncontrolling” as much... So, if you'll let me, I'll make a leap and I hope you can trust me. Why isn't there a word for "uncontrolling" in word 2010?  Maybe it doesn't exist? Maybe it just doesn't have it? My guess, it exists but Word 2010 just doesn't recognize it.  Maybe Word 2012 when it comes around. = )

They: A Poem

We are missing parts of ourselves because they became a part of us over time,
and we allowed it, all for the sake of love.
We let the night forever stand still, never letting us see the blinding light of the true nature of the sun.

They became a part of us,
and now moon sized holes fill our hearts that they inhabited because they have left us…
We risked our lives all for the sake of love that they can't seem to offer us.
We feel ripped apart, needing just to find a new piece of life to sew back together the damage.

The time comes to fill those holes with others: others that seemingly aren't they.
We disappear when we attempt to fill the holes, but it's all we can do to bandage an unhealing wound.

It's not hard though to let go of they,
because they didn't inhabit a big piece of us that really mattered…

We didn't truly loved them…

We love, yes… but only on the surface of our hearts and brains
because we couldn't let them penetrate further.

We were never really able to be ourselves around those that terrify and rape,
Never able to express ourselves without condemning and glorifying our thoughts,
Never able to just be around them like we can with those others…
We always knew this, but continue to ignore it even now…

We don't want to admit failure.
A failure of love,
A failure we've been told is our fault,
because it's our job to fix those they into something of our own liking.

Our lesson becomes Let Be and Let Live,
but we live in a system that doesn't Let Be.
We thrive in a system of retribution and disease,
disallowing a true love of they.

This is what happens when little girls and boys are psychologically conditioned from birth to think that romance and love with those they are the ultimate goals in life.

We tear ourselves apart trying to achieve just an once of love and then we tell ourselves we aren't worth it.  That we are ugly, damaged, stupid, enraged, fat, crazy, bastards, in need of change, a genius, gullible, all powerful, worthless, the king... because we are.... because of society's conditioning of how we act and behave.

We think it's our fault because the movies make it seem so easy to love and hate those they.  So black and white.  We think it's our fault because we live in a society where abuse and pain is kept secret from little girls and boys.

Oh, we know it, we know the abuse and pain happens.  We always have.  But it's oh so quiet on the home front.... The nuclear family is the ultimate secret keeper, even to themselves.

Fearful Love: A Poem

Stop calling me boring
    Because now you’re boring me.
Stop telling me I’m unproductive
    Because now I can’t move.
Stop telling me to be all you want me to be,
Because I can barely get up in the morning because of the confusion.
Stop saying makeup is ugly,
Because now I feel ugly… and CRAZY confused.

Stop all of it.
Start loving me.
Stop killing.
Start living.
Stop the hatred.
Start touching me
    with your words.

I can’t go on like this.
I can’t even breathe
Because you are no longer my breath of fresh air.

Touch me with your words
And I will lovingly give you all you want.
Touch me, and I will touch you back, letting my hand glide over you because you touch me so deeply with your words.

I love you,
But if you can’t understand me, sympathize with me, hold me, then I can’t go on truly loving you.

Women live in a world of makeup and make believe because they can barely obtain it in real life.
Women put a smile on their faces, when really they are drowning in sorrow.
Women fake it until they make it.
Women give man new life, even when women mask their pain with fantasy.
And then when the fantasy fades away, men ask, “Where did you go? You aren’t the women I married.”
And the woman responds, “You killed me with your talk of death.”
And then the man verbally abuses, punches, rapes, dismembers, until she is in a state of submissiveness.
And the woman responds, “Yes, honey, I love you, always.”

-To all men and women who have hurt me

Youthful Poems

I wrote these poems my senior year of high school (so four years ago).  They are interesting because they reflect my style of writing even now.

Doubt
While I love the way you talk,
I doubt I can trust you to take the walk.
Your devotion for me
May someday leave you feeling un-free.
Like the bodies of the dead run cold,
I am afraid your love for me will grow old.
Our glistening life together will drain out of sun
And you may wish to forevermore freely run.
Eventually you will unshackle your heart
And leave me to depart.

Thoughts
My heart leaps up when I behold
Something important to be told.
When an idea comes to morph my thoughts,
It leaves me feeling up in knots.
But when I unearth the answer from a day to night,
I feel alive with delight.

My Lost One
Through the days and nights
My soul wept.
Not for you but for my lost one instead.

While sleeping soundly, I cried from within.
Will I ever find my lost one and when?
I think about all the times I’ve had
And wonder if it was at all worth it in the end.

After some time I decide
You weren’t worth being by my side.
I now know that I need time
To find myself and live without
The fake façade that sparked doubt.

Europe
My heart was like space
Exploring with new taste.
My sight like an infant,
Seeing everything new and bright.
My hearing like a new echo
Filled with fresh sounds.
All these new sights and sounds
Came to fill me up to discover
Its new lands and waters.

Always War
War.
Always War.
But what is it for?
Like death, it’s unavoidable.
But why must we fight when we can speak?
Why must we kill to get what we desire?
Do we go to war to do what’s right?
Or is some of it out of spite?
Maybe it’s all a fabrication covering
the light to the truth
To achieve political values and its morals.

Death. Danger. Damage. Destruction.
Is this really what we want?

Wonderful  Darkness
Euphoria is all she feels.

The birds, the trees,
The flowers, and the bees.

Serenity possesses her.

The mind of her sun brightens up her day.

Like the vibrant sky, everything around her intoxicates her with
joy.

Peace. Love. Bliss.

It’s something she will never have to miss.

Anguish is all he feels.

His mind is plagued
With what he made.

Serenity broke away.

The mind of his sun deadens his day.

Like the dead sky, everything around him intoxicates him with gloom.

Darkness. Fear. Hate.

It must be his fate.

The True Light

Life is filled with wonder.
We emerge innocent and naïve.
Everyone struggling to guard
          us and deceive.
A veil rests over our eyes
Covered with deceit and lies.

The veil is crisp
And it always eventually tears and rips.
It lets in the blinding true light
From the midnight sun so bright.

Life is filled with simplicity in the beginning.
Full of smiles and laughter.
Hope and wonder.
Dreams and whispers...

The murmurs of truth
Come to tell us life is uncouth.
Hopes and dreams are left neglect
While hearts are wrecked.
Loved ones go cold
And lies unfold.

Innocence is smothered to a shattering end.

Life is filled with dread.
But we must go on
And forget the mess
To relieve our helpless stress.
We must find hope
To fulfill our dreams and cope
And find our own true light.
